Framingham
The original vineyard of the winery was founded by Rex Brooke-Taylor in 1981, and the name of the winery was taken from Rex's hometown in England - Framingham. In the early days, they needed to borrow wineries and equipment from other wineries to make wine. It was not until 1997 that they finally established their own winery. In 1998, they produced the first batch of their own Farmingham Winery wine.
The vineyard is located in the Wairau Valley, where the oldest Riesling in the Marlborough region is planted in a warm climate and well-drained stony soil. Located in the warm center of the valley, there are alluvial soils formed by river sedimentation. There is little rainfall here and the risk of frost damage is relatively low, which allows them to control the grape yield and pick at the most ideal maturity.
In order to maintain ecological diversity, they take care of their vineyards in a low-intervention way, and the entire winemaking process is handled as manually as possible.
In addition to being certified by the New Zealand Sustainable Wine Growing Program, the vineyards are also certified organic by BioGro NZ Ltd - which further reflects their efforts to restore ecological balance.
